IBM, Google ou Rigetti disposent d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u2019ordinateurs quantiques<\/strong>, mais ces machines en sont encore au stade exp\u00e9rimental<\/strong>. La technologie souffre notamment d\u2019un probl\u00e8me de stabilit\u00e9<\/strong> qui n\u00e9cessite de la faire fonctionner dans un environnement proche du z\u00e9ro absolu<\/strong>. Des conditions qui n\u00e9cessitent d\u2019utiliser des mat\u00e9riaux sp\u00e9cifiques qui ont les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s ad\u00e9quates \u00e0 ces temp\u00e9ratures extr\u00eames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une \u00e9quipe de scientifique du d\u00e9partement de physique de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Lancaster m\u00e8ne des recherches pour trouver des isolants thermiques \u00e0 tr\u00e8s basses temp\u00e9ratures<\/strong>. Ces mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 faible conductivit\u00e9 thermique sont utiles pour toute la cryog\u00e9nie<\/strong>, notamment pour concevoir des ordinateurs quantiques<\/strong>. Les chercheurs en ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 identifi\u00e9 quelques-uns comme le Vespel, mais leur co\u00fbt \u00e9lev\u00e9 limite leur utilisation. Leur \u00e9tude montre que de simples briques de Lego sont tout aussi efficaces<\/strong> pour un co\u00fbt beaucoup plus faible. Le mat\u00e9riau est bon march\u00e9 et utilisable avec une simple imprimante 3D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les Lego, un excellent isolant thermique pour fabriquer un ordinateur quantique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Les chercheurs ont empil\u00e9 quatre briques de Lego<\/strong> auxquelles ils ont ajout\u00e9 un petit appareil de chauffage ainsi qu\u2019un thermom\u00e8tre. Ils ont ensuite plac\u00e9 l\u2019assemblage dans un r\u00e9frig\u00e9rateur \u00e0 dilution<\/strong> pour le porter \u00e0 une temp\u00e9rature proche du z\u00e9ro absolu, plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment 1,8\u00b0 Kelvin<\/strong> ou -273,15\u00b0 Celsius<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019\u00e9tude donne des r\u00e9sultats surprenants. Le plastique ABS<\/strong> (acrylonitrile butadi\u00e8ne styr\u00e8ne) ainsi que la structure des briques<\/strong> sont plus efficaces que les plastiques plus chers du march\u00e9. Les scientifiques estiment que ces r\u00e9sultats sont dus aux propri\u00e9t\u00e9s physiques de l\u2019ABS, mais aussi \u00e0 la structure des briques qui minimise le contact physique, et ralentit la propagation de la chaleur. Ce type d\u2019assemblage pourrait donc devenir un composant structurel utilis\u00e9 pour concevoir les environnements ultra-froids n\u00e9cessaires aux ordinateurs quantiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
